DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY MEDICINE

The Department of Veterinary Medicine was established during 2023 to offer Under Graduate course (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) as per G.O(Ms.) No.96 dated 18.08.2020 Animal Husbandry Dairying and Fisheries (AH6) Department, Chennai to offer Undergraduate courses as well as carrying out basic and applied research in the field of Veterinary Medicine.

Objectives

To impart undergraduate education to students.
To carryout diagnosis and treatment of animals.
To offer specialized referral services.
To offer technical advices to farmers regarding managemental practices of farm and pet animal disease prevention.
To conduct training programme to the field veterinarians.

Under-Graduate Education

The department is offering courses on Veterinary Medicine to the undergraduate students as per the MSVE 2016 regulations.

Veterinary medicine (4+1)

Unit – 1 : General Medicine
Unit – 2 : Systemic Diseases
Unit – 3 : Metabolic and Deficiency Disorders
Unit – 4 : Zoo and Wild Animal Medicine
Unit – 5 : Bacterial, Fungal and Rickettsial Diseases
Unit – 6 : Viral and Parasitic Diseases
Unit – 7 : Jurisprudence, Ethics and Animal Welfare

Credit based annual examination pattern will be carried out for Papers I and II

Paper I : Unit – 1,2,3 & 4
Paper II : Unit – 5,6 & 7

Laboratory Facilities

The department is having two laboratories to educate the students and to undertake research.

Veterinary Clinical Medicine laboratory.
Veterinary Preventive Medicine laboratory.

Emergency and Critical Care Medicine in Large animals
Alternate Medicine (Ethno-Veterinary and Veterinary homeopathy)
