DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY EXTENSION EDUCATION

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education was established during 2023 with an aim to teach undergraduate students with a view to provide professional competencies and expanding the knowledge base in the aspects of sociology, rural development, transfer of technology, management and evaluation of extension programmes, livestock production economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, ICTs and Contemporary Issues in livestock Enterprise. The department also carries out need based extension research, organizing and coordinating various extension programmes to the livestock farmers in liaison with Department of Animal Husbandry and Department of Agriculture.

Objectives

To offer undergraduate courses in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education
To undertake research in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension, Economics and Marketing
To organise and coordinate various extension programmes on livestock and poultry production for the benefit of farming Community
To impart continuous education through capacity building programmes

Under-Graduate Education

As per the VCI Regulation, the department is offering the following courses.

III Professional Year - Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education (3+1 credit hours)

Laboratory Facilities

Audio-visual Laboratory is equipped with teaching aids and infrastructure facilities for teaching and research activities
Photography cum Graphic unit (With Lighting facility aiding recording/ Photography along with Work station for editing / Recording facilities)
Group Discussion / Seminar Room
Museum cum Livestock advisory Unit with LCD television for playing Education Video lessons for visiting farmers besides educational charts, specimens and diaroma etc.,

Thrust areas of Research

Establish a translational platform for need based research and dissemination of proven and sustainable technologies.
Socio-Economic studies on Livestock and Poultry enterprises.
Impact evaluation studies of technological interventions in Livestock and Poultry sector.
Economic evaluation of livestock and poultry production and diseases.

Extension

The department organizes various extension programmes as follows:

Conduct of on- campus and off- campus training programmes
Mass contact programmes / Campaigns
Conducting Participatory Rural Appraisal at villages to find out problems in the local areas
Demonstrations
Publications of farm literature
Field trips / study tours etc.,
