DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY PUBLIC HEALTH AND EPIDEMIOLOGY


The Department of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology was startedduring the year 2020as a constituent of Veterinary College and Research Institute, Veerapandi, Theni District, with an aim to offer Under Graduate courses in B.V.Sc. and A.H. Apart from undergraduate teaching, the department involves in research and public health awareness activities on zoonotic and infectious diseases of livestock, poultry, pet animals and humans along with disease investigation and clinical samples analysis.

Objectives

  • To offer value added UG education in the discipline of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology
  • To prioritize strategies and impart skills to undertake epidemiological investigations, surveillance and monitoring on zoonotic diseases.
  • To device plans for control and eradication programmes, for economically important and zoonotic diseases of major public health importance.
  • To offer an effective, outreach-enhanced veterinary public health service.

  • Milk & Meat Hygiene laboratory:Assessment of microbial quality of milk, meat, egg, milk products, meat products and environmental samples
  • Environmental Hygiene laboratory:Assessment of water quality viz. physical, metallic and non-metallic impurities and microbial quality.
  • Zoonoses laboratory:Molecular detection of zoonotic pathogens.
  • Epidemiology laboratory:Data processing unit for surveillance, monitoring and forecasting of zoonotic and infectious diseases.
