DEPARTMENT OF LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY

The Department of Livestock Products Technology was established at Veterinary College and Research Institute, Theni in the year 2023 to offer quality education to B.V.Sc.& A.H. students.

Objectives

Education: To impart knowledge to the Under-graduate degree students in the discipline of Livestock Products Technology.
Research: To conduct research on need based field and industry-oriented problems.
Extension:To conduct training programmes and demonstrations on value addition of livestock products to the farmers, entrepreneurs, rural youths and Self-Help Group Women.

Education

As per the MSVE-2016 regulations prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India, the department offers the following under-graduate courses for IIIProfessional year students with 2+1 credit hours.

Unit – I : Milk and Milk Products Technology
Unit – II :Wool Science
Unit – III:Abattoir Practices and Animal By-products Technology
Unit – IV :Meat Science

Infrastructure

Our department has a Meat Science and Dairy Science Laboratory. The laboratories are well equipped with instruments such as Captive bolt Pistol, Meat mincing machine, Mobile scalding tank, Electrical stunning device, Cream separator, Lactometer, Butyrometer, Student microscope, Gerber’s centrifuge, Abbe Refractometer, Sausage filler, Portioning machine, Screw gauze, Spherometer, Hot water bath,Ermascope, Autoclave, Bleeding cone, Vernier caliper, Impulse sealer, pH meter digital, Butter churner, Deep freezer, Evisceration table, Defeathering machine, Electronic monopan balance, Food processor, Butchering set, Hot air oven, Pressure cooker, Refrigerator, Balance for weighing birds and Small animal balance.
