Department of Veterinary Pathology


  • The Department of Veterinary Pathology was established in the year 2020 in an area of 9080.54 sq.ft. and it consists of Clinical Pathology Laboratory, Histopathology and Museum. Equipment worth of Rs. 40,02,329.59 was purchased for teaching of undergraduate students, histopathology and clinical pathology laboratory purpose.
  • The department is dedicated to provide high quality teaching, diagnostic and research services to students, private practitioners, government research institutes, poultry industry within and outside the district.
  • Besides the curricular activities, post-mortem examination of livestock and poultry of the farmers are being done which is an important tool for the diagnosis and prevention of disease in farm animals.
  • During disease outbreaks, disease investigation is carried out and proper diagnosis and suitable treatment protocols are advised to the farmers.
  • Regular screening of samples from clinics and processing of samples for histopathology is carried out and results communicated therein.


Objectives

  • To impart quality education to undergraduate (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) students
  • Conducting postmortem examination on livestock and poultry for academic and diagnostic purposes
  • Screening of cytology, histopathology sections and clinical pathology samples for diagnosis of diseases
  • To carry out field oriented research work

Education

  • The Course, Veterinary Pathology (Unit I, II, III, IV, V and VI) (4 + 2) is being offered by this department to the undergraduate students during second professional year.

Extension

  • Disease outbreak investigation is carried out and diagnostic services are rendered
  • Regular screening of clinicopathological samples and result communication to the livestock and pet owners
  • Based on the Post-mortem examination of livestock and poultry, and suitable treatment and preventive measures are suggested

Facilities Available

UG laboratory

  • Binocular microscopes for undergraduate students teaching and research purpose is available.

Museum

  • Well-equipped museum with museum racks housing gross postmortem specimens for undergraduate teaching

Histopathology Laboratory

  • This laboratory is fully equipped with the necessary facilities viz. Microtome, floatation bath, hot air oven, refrigerator, autoclave, digital balance, processing unit and staining unit

Clinical pathology Laboratory

  • The laboratory is well equipped with the necessary instruments viz. centrifuge, autoclave, hot air oven and refrigerator and monopan digital balance. In addition, wall charts are kept to teach various condition pertaining to haemogram abnormalities.

Phase contrast microscope

  • It is used to demonstrate and capture the high-contrast images of transparent specimens, such as living cells, microorganisms, thin tissue slices, unfixed or unstained smears
