DEPARTMENT OF VETERINARY ANATOMY


The department has been established to impart quality education to under graduate students. The department is offering Under Graduate course - Veterinary Anatomy (VAN 4+3) for the First Professional Year B.V.Sc., & A.H., students. Apart from the curricular activities, the department will carry out basic and applied research on gross morphological, histological, histochemical and embryological studies of various organs of different species of livestock and poultry.


Infrastructure and facilities

The Department of Veterinary Anatomy has 4 different facilities.

    1. Osteology and Arthrology Laboratory

  • Osteology and Arthrology lab is established with bones and joints specimens of various domestic animals.

2. Dissection hall with attached embalming room

  • The dissection lab has a repository of formalinized specimens of various organs of domestic animals and embalmed calf specimens for UG dissection classes.

3. Histology and Embryology Laboratory

  • Histology and Embryology lab is equipped with adequate number of student microscopes for the practical classes and the lab is also displayed with acrylic boards showing pictures of various histology and embryology specimens. CCTV attached trinocular microscope with TV monitor is also available for demonstration of histology and embryology slides.

4. Anatomy Museum

  • The well-established Veterinary Anatomy Museum holds more than 75 wet specimens of various domestic animals, chicken and few other species. The museum also has assembled skeletons of cattle, horse, dog, chicken and rabbit. Sequential embryo development specimens of chicken and various teratological specimens are also displayed in the museum.

Besides, the department has very good infrastructural facilities including histoembedder, embalming unit, cadaver injector, trinocular microscope with CCTV attachment, automatic rotary microtome, deep freezer, hot air oven, digital analytical balance and animal hoisting unit.

Education

  • The Course, VETERINARY ANATOMY (4+3) is being offered by this department to the undergraduate students during first professional year.
