Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology
The Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology was established during the year 2014-2015 (G.O. Ms. No. 134, Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries (AH-6) Department dated 09/11/2011) to offer Undergraduate courses as well as carrying out basic and applied research in the field of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology.
OBJECTIVES
To impart Undergraduate education to the students in the discipline of Veterinary surgery and Radiology
To provide surgical treatment to sick animals and to train Undergraduates in the management of clinical cases
To offer guidance to PG and PhD research students
To provide information to the animal owners in prevention and management of sick animals by way of extension activities
To function as a referral unit for neighbouring districts of Thanjavur.
EDUCATION
Undergraduate courses are being offered as per the VCI regulations.
Post Graduate courses are being offered from 2019-2020 onwards.
Laboratory Facilities
Small animal soft tissue operation theatre with C- Arm, hydraulic table, vital sign monitors, inhalant anesthetic machine with isoflurane vaporizer, centralized oxygen unit, suction apparatus, thermo cautery unit, LED operation lights ceiling mounted, horizontal autoclave facilities.
Small animal ophthalmology theatre with operating microscope, Slit lamp microscope, tonometre, ophthalmoscope, instruments to perform cataract surgery.
Small animal dentistry Unit with ultrasonic dental scaler, aerator with polishing brush, dental instruments for small and large animal.
Large animal Operation theatre with pulley hoist, hydraulic table, and ceiling mounted LED operation lamp and casting pit for large animals and Large animal anesthetic machine with vital sign monitor and ventilator
Small ruminant operation theatre with operating table, LED operating lamp.
Equine examination unit with equine Travis with soft padding and anti skid flooring.
Small / Large animal physiotherapy unit with LASER therapy, short wave diathermy, infrared therapy, interferential therapy and muscle nerve stimulator.
