Hostel Facilities


The hostel facilities at Veterinary College and Research Institute (VCRI), Namakkal, are designed to provide a safe, comfortable, and student-friendly residential environment for undergraduate, postgraduate and internship students of various constituents colleges of TANUVAS. Furthermore, the hostel offers a conducive environment for academic learning, personal development and student well-being. The hostel is administered by a Warden supported by Six Deputy Wardens, who oversee general welfare of students, hostel maintenance and mess management separately for boys and girl’s hostels under the overall supervision of the Dean.


History and Genesis

The Veterinary College and Research Institute was started at Namakkal on 14.06.1985. Initially, the College functioned in the Government Higher Secondary School, Namakkal (South), and the students were accommodated in five private rented buildings in different places at Namakkal. On 01.05.90, this College moved to the new own premises at Ladduvadi campus, Namakkal. From June 1991, the students were accommodated in the newly constructed College hostel buildings. Initially, there was only one hostel building for men (the present Cauvery hostel block), but with the admission of girl’s students in the year 1997, a separate hostel for ladies (Ladies Hostel – I) was constructed in 1997.

Administration

  • The Dean, Veterinary College and Research Institute is overall in charge of the Hostel
  • The student welfare activities in the hostel are planned, executed and supervised by a team headed by the Warden and assisted by Three men Deputy Wardens and three Lady Deputy Wardens
  • The Warden and Deputy Wardens reside within or near the hostel premises, ensuring round-the-clock support and supervision for students. Hence inmates can approach them 24x7 for any requirement
  • Hostel office functions between 10.00 a.m and 6.00 p.m.

Hostel Accommodation

The institute provides separate and secure hostel facilities for boys and girls within the campus. These facilities can accommodate up to 600 students. Each student is provided with essential furniture, including a steel cot, study table, and chair.

Amenities and Facilities

The hostel is well-equipped with modern amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for students. Each room is fitted with window curtains and mosquito screens for protection against insects. Every floor in both boys’ and girls’ hostels is provided with washing machines for student convenience.

Hostel Mess

Healthy food is being prepared in the centralized kitchen facility available in the Cauvery hostel and served to the students in a hygienic manner. Mess is run by the students under the supervision of Deputy Warden (Mess) and student hostel Mess Secretaries and representatives. The hostel Mess Secretaries and representatives from each year are selected based on individual willingness. The food menu was prepared by the students according to their taste.

  • The Centralised kitchen with separate dining facilities for boys and girls managed by students on dividend system, with the guideship of Deputy Warden for mess
  • The kitchen is well-equipped with modern appliances, including steam boilers, dough kneading machines, chapati-making machines, deep freezers, wet grinders, and vegetable cutters to ensure efficient food preparation.
  • Separate dining halls are also available for postgraduate students
  • Students are provided hygienic and nutritious vegetarian / non-vegetarian dishes and a monthly feast
  • The common kitchenis furnished with modular kitchen and automated machines

Healthcare Centre

  • A healthcare centre with necessary medical facilities is functioning for the benefit of the students
  • A medical officer is visiting the hostel campus periodically for the benefit of the students
  • An exclusive medical room is available within the hostel premises, equipped with essential emergency medicines accessible round the clock. Drivers are stationed during night hours and holidays to provide immediate transport to hospitals in case of emergencies and 24 hours security services available

Students Welfare and safety

  • To ensure student safety and prevent ragging, faculty members are scheduled for night stay in the hostel premises. These measures ensure a secure and supportive environment for all students, especially fresh entrants. Surveillance cameras installed in strategic places of the campus for monitoring.All the hostellers are not allowed to go outside the premises without prior permission of the deputy wardens with duly signed passes. Furthermore, Biometric access system and Automated SMS alerts to parents facilities are available.
  • They are requested to make proper entry in the register in the security point. The girls are allowed outside the premises only before 6.30 pm and boys 7.30 pm. There also biometric entry point at the gate for the students with SMS facilities to their respective parents.

Hostel hygienic Measures

  • The hostel campus is maintained highly hygienic with periodical sanitation once in a month. The hostel surroundings are kept clean and tidy by clearing the bushes as and when required.

Infrastructure and facilities

  • RO water system to provide clean and safe drinking water for boys and girls in their respective blocks and mess hall
  • 24 hours uninterrupted power supply is ensured with the support of 220KV generator
  • Each hostel has been provided with geyser to supply hot water
  • Every block is furnished with TV hall and newspaper reading table facilities
  • Washing machines available in various blocks of the hostel
  • Water coolers in each floor of the hostel
  • fly catchers (Pesto- O- Flash) were kept in Mess premises
  • Four airport visitors’ chairs provided in the visitors lounge area
  • Each student is provided with a steel cot, table and chair
  • Sanitary napkin incinerators (six numbers) are provided in girl’s hostel
  • Care takers are provided for day and night.
