Department of Animal Nutrition

The department has two laboratories viz., Feed and Fodder analysis lab and Energy Metabolism Laboratories and a Feed processing and mixing plant. It has been started to offer undergraduate courses in Animal Nutrition, to provide hands on training on various livestock feed preparation to the under graduate students and to cater the needs of livestock and poultry feed of the college, university centres and state government farms. The department is well equipped with all the required equipment including Wiley mill, Kjeldhals digestion system, Kjeldhals distillation system and feed plant, feed analytical instruments for estimation of various parameters in the feed stuff. The major thrust areas for research will be improving the nutrient utilization of alternative energy and protein sources, analysing the nutrient profile, contaminants, adulterants and mycotoxins in feed/feed ingredients. Above all, conducting trainings to the livestock farmers for better livestock and poultry production to meet their requirements and for better livelihood and advising the farmers to feed balanced and quality ration to livestock and poultry and to economize dairy and poultry farming will be the topmost priority.
